Many people are familiar with the Pierce Park area of north Boise but few are familiar with its history. Walter Pierce was mayor of Boise in 1895 and he played a big role in installing paved streets, regulating electric lines, telephone poles, and fire hydrants. He also organized the Boise & Interurban rail road, a 60 mile electric streetcar loop from Boise to Caldwell. He had such a large impact on the local community they named the lakes and surrounding land Pierce Park.
Pierce Park will be part of the Pierce Park Neighborhood Association, an optional NA that is open to not only
homeowners but local business owners as well. The Pierce Park Neighborhood Association defines themselves as a group
of community members who organize, share ideas, and cooperate to improve their neighborhood. The neighborhood
association is currently working on a project to develop a connective pathway to allow individuals living in the
neighborhood to access the Northgate shopping center by foot or bike. This is an active organization dedicated to
improving their neighborhood.
